US Airstrikes target Puntland killing one person

US military has confirmed on Monday that it carried an air strike against Islamic group in northeast Somalia killing one person.

The US Africa Command said in a statement that their forces conducted an air strikes against what they called terrorists in coordination with the Federal Government of Somalia.

Colonel Ali Abdi, a military officer in Puntland said the strike took place in hills near Qandala town of that region.   Last week Somali Government said it had requested US air strikes that killed dozens of civilians in parts of Somalia.
